I basically think that you can't claim that Valentine's Day is a consumerist
invention when it was linked to romantic ideals already in the 14th century. Protest to not giving gifts or flowers as much as you want, even though you know that really makes someone happy. But at the end of the day I think it really sucks to not be appreciated. Not that the lack of presents means that you are not appreciated, of course. I'd rather have 364 days of romance instead of only one semi-artificial one. It just kind of hits you seeing everyone else in the friendly and romantic spirit. So what if it's not a holiday to your mind. Why fail to say "I love you" just because you don't believe in the 14th of February. I used to really like Valentine's Day or more I liked sõbrapäev, because I've never had a special someone do something special for me on that day. I suppose it would be nice, just once, to have that over-the-top experience. Can't I be simple and selfish for once, just for one day?
PPS. In the end I know it doesn't matter. I just felt a little sad
